What is telehealth therapy? Telehealth therapy involves conducting counselling sessions through a secure video platform. It provides the same level of professional support as in-person therapy, with the convenience of accessing sessions from your chosen location.

How do I attend a session? Sessions are conducted via Halaxy, a secure and easy-to-use platform that meets all privacy and regulation standards. Once your appointment is booked, you’ll receive a link to join the session.

What do the first couple of sessions entail? The first couple of sessions are typically assessment sessions. During these, your psychologist will take a detailed history and may utilise screening tools such as the Adult Attachment Interview or other assessments. The aim is to collaboratively identify a tailored treatment plan and therapy goals based on your presenting issues, symptoms, and personal circumstances.

What interventions and approaches are used? We draw on evidence-based practices and integrative approaches tailored to your needs, including: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Incorporating concepts from Polyvagal Theory, Mindfulness, Attachment Theory, and Trauma-Informed Practices. For couples counselling, we utilise a combination of: Gottman Principles Interpersonal Neurobiology Attachment-Focused Approaches Your psychologist will collaborate with you to choose the most effective interventions for your unique circumstances.

What do I need for therapy? Good internet connection: A stable connection to avoid interruptions. Private, comfortable space: A quiet area where you feel safe to talk freely. Seating and water: A comfortable chair and some water nearby. Notebook: For writing down homework tasks, reflections between sessions, and other insights to enhance therapy.

What can I use for telehealth? You can use any device with a screen and internet connection, such as: iPad Phone Laptop For EMDR processing, we recommend using a larger screen (e.g., laptop) to optimize bilateral stimulation.

Is telehealth therapy as effective as in-person therapy? Yes! Research shows that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy for many mental health concerns. It also offers unique benefits like added flexibility and comfort.

How can I determine if I’m a good fit for the psychologist? The therapeutic relationship is key to successful therapy. We offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your needs, answer questions, and see if we’re the right fit for each other.

What’s the frequency of sessions? Session frequency depends on the severity of your concerns, accessibility, and goals. This will be discussed in the initial sessions and collaboratively agreed upon.

What issues can you help with? We provide support for a wide range of challenges, tailoring our approach to meet your unique needs. Some of the key areas we work with include: Anxiety: Addressing excessive worry, panic, social anxiety, and other related concerns. Depression: Supporting you in managing low mood, hopelessness, and loss of motivation. Personality Disorders: Providing compassionate care and strategies for navigating these complex patterns. Typically, for more complex presentations, we may require you to be linked in with additional supports. Stress and Trauma-Related Disorders, Including PTSD: Helping you process and heal from overwhelming experiences. Complex Trauma: Working with long-term impacts of early or repeated trauma to foster resilience and growth. Attachment and Relationship Issues: Exploring patterns in your relationships to build stronger, healthier connections. Life Transitions/Identity: Guiding you through major life changes, personal growth, or identity exploration.

Can I get a rebate through Medicare, NDIS, or other third party covers? Medicare: We provide psychological treatment under the Australian Government’s Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative. If you are eligible for a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, you may access Medicare rebates for both in-person and telehealth sessions. Mental Health Care Plans: Up to 10 rebateable sessions per calendar year. Eating Disorder Treatment Plans: Up to 40 rebateable sessions per calendar year. Chronic Disease Management Plans: Up to 5 rebateable sessions per calendar year. Rebates can be processed directly for you at your session. Please note: A GP referral is not required to attend therapy; it is optional and designed to help with costs. For more information, view the fact sheet or discuss with us during your initial session. NDIS: We support self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants. Private Health Insurance: Rebates may be available depending on your policy—check with your provider. WorkCover, DVA, and TAC: Limited availability exists for these; please enquire directly to confirm eligibility.

How do I prepare for a session? We recommend taking a few moments to settle in before your session. Create a quiet, distraction-free space. After the session, take time to reflect and transition back into your day.

How do I get started? Getting started is simple! Email us to set up a complimentary 15-minute phone call to discuss your needs and explore if we’re the right fit for you. If you have other questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact us—we’re happy to assist.

What is your cancellation policy? As session times are in high demand, we require at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Failure to provide sufficient notice will result in a cancellation fee: Same-day cancellations or failure to attend (including forgetting your session) will incur the full session fee. This policy ensures fairness for clients waiting for appointments and respects the time and preparation put into your session. For Monday appointments, rescheduling notifications must be received by the Friday prior, as weekends are considered out of hours.
